We make our pieces in small batches because it's the only way we know how to do this well. Florimay was founded by a small team of women in New York who were tired of closets full of clothes that felt like nothing — stiff collars, scratchy seams, fabrics that promised softness and delivered static. So we started over, slowly, one essential at a time. A batch for us might be forty pieces. Sometimes sixty. Rarely more. That pace lets us sit with a fabric long enough to know it, and change course when something isn't right.

Small-batch also means we're honest about what we have. When a run of our cotton tees sells through, we don't rush a replacement off a different mill to keep shelves full. We wait until the next shipment of the same yarn arrives, knits up the same way, and washes down to the same lived-in hand. It's slower, and sometimes it means an email back saying a piece won't return until spring. We'd rather tell you that than hand you something close-but-not-quite and hope you don't notice.

The softly-built part matters too. Our sewing partners — most within a day's drive of our studio in Brooklyn — work at a pace that lets them finish a french seam properly, press a hem flat, and catch a crooked stitch before it leaves the table. We pay them for that time. It's a big part of why a Florimay tee costs what it does, and why, three years in, we still get notes from customers saying the first one they bought is the one they reach for most.
